Teraillon Baby scale
UI, Design & Development
As consumers become more demanding, we need smarter products that have more functions, perform better and have a longer lifespan. With this Terraillon electronic baby scale concept, monitoring your baby's weight is now child's play. Due to its specifically chosen bowl shape it is also durable enough for the healthcare professional on the move. The scale comes with a removable basket which makes cleaning more easy and is replaceable once your child outgrows it.
An easy-to-read LCD makes this scale perfect for quick and accurate measurements. Through WiFi, it organizes all measured data in charts. Parents can easily analyse this data on a computer, tablet or phone. I did little UI work specifically for mobile devices, just to give a first impression on what’s possible these days. For the design, I’de tried to keep it as simple and clean as possible, fitting modern interiors while enhancing a hygienic appearance.

Grundig 3067 Speaker Dock
Strategy & Design
The Grundig 3067 offers powerful, distortion-free audio performance through multiple connection interfaces. AirPlay, Apple's wireless audio streaming technology, is a solid option for anyone tired of connecting and disconnecting iDevices to their speakers. With AirPlay, you can stream music from one source to multiple speakers in various locations, provided that they're all on the same Wi-Fi network. Derived from the vintage Grundig 3066 tube radio I own, this modern speaker
dock came up featuring the same minimalistic interface with vintage easy-to ease knobs. Besides AirPlay, the Grundig 3067 includes a 3,5mm jack cable, a (charging) dock and is equipped with a Bluetooth module for wireless connectivity.
On the back of the speaker, under the cable housing, is place for a bass reflex port for improving sound experience. Overall, the Grundig 3067 is as much of a stunning conversation piece as it is an excellent, easy-to-use speaker dock.

Electrolux Design Lab
Strategy, Design & Development
Established in 2003, Electrolux Design Lab is a yearly international design competition for undergraduate and graduate industrial design students. Each student is invited to present his or her own innovative ideas with regard to household appliances for future use.
The brief for this year’s Design Lab competition challenges design students to draw inspiration from professional experience creators like chefs,
architects and interior designers to design home appliances that will provide a fuller sensory experience. So, what if we could incorporate more senses into design? Experience is by most consumers considered as luxury. Opportunities for innovation could be found in emerging technologies; state of the art production methods, new materials or it might be through the clever use of surface engineering.

Life Cycle Assesments
Research & Development
The goal of this research project was to design an Impact Assessment Method (IAM) which enables the user to assess a comparison of multiple product on the aspect of safety. The developed IAM called S.P.A.M. needs to be used in a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to analyse the safety of two comparable products. The IAM gives indications for setting up a proper safety-related inventory for products. It lists possible features of products that can contribute to a certain safety hazard when
interaction between user and the product takes place.
The effects resulting from the interventions are related to negative health effects (damage). These are related to skin, muscle tissue, organs, bones, eyes, ears and the nervous system. These effects in time have higher order effects, such as blood loss, infection potentials, organ damage and immobility. The higher order effects are better measurable and give clear indications of the actual effects on a human being.

AEG Rapido
Research, Design & Engineering
The AEG Rapido is a battery operated handheld vacuum cleaner which is mainly used for cleaning up dust and small household debits. This project elaborates on the development and reasoning behind a new generation of handheld vacuum cleaners. As a basis for decision making, the theory of product phases by Arthur Eger is studied and applied. In addition to predict the next logical step, trends and new technologies in
the field of material engineering, air flow, noise reduction and ease of use are analysed and implemented.
Through shape and color studies, the exterior for a next generation is explored and visualised. Based on the constructed 3D CAD files, a finite element analyse is executed and used for calculating the deconstruction of precarious surfaces during extraordinary use.

Smithuis Chips Packaging
Branding & Design
For many years, Smithuis bakery waste, such as stale bread and crumbs, were dried and mixed for animal feeding. It is rich in fat and carbohydrate, but the protein quality and the vitamin content are low. As better and more suitable food sources emerged, Smithuis had to find alternatives and decided to do something different: turning waste into something delicious while increasing profits. This project elaborated on the development of a packaging that could fulfill
the predefined goals by Smithuis; modern, luxurious and quality. The function of a packaging plays in the purchase decision of customers, especially concerning supermarket products, an important aspect. But packaging is much more than ‘the box around the product’. Packaging not only fulfills a lot of functions (ranging from ‘protecting’ to ‘informing’ and beyond), it also plays a vital role in the supply- and value chain of products.

Bosch Design Study : Drills
Strategy & Design
For Bosch Tools a new visual brand language was developed during a design study on professional work equipment. The GLD 16 was designed with a 3D visual identity that communicates what this brand stands for: making it easier for the professional craftsman to do the job through high quality, eyecatching products that are able to survive the toughest jobs. At the same time, many new functional features were
developed to make life easier for every amateur handyman. Bosch provides innovative professional power tools for the trade industry that meet the highest standards in speed, precision, and durability which helps achieve great work results. Bosch drills provide the greatest levels of comfort in the most compact design available, featuring best in class power to weight ratio.

IKEA Life Cycle Management
Research & Development
Product Life Cycle Management focuses on the information, knowledge and experience that underlies product development. The main goal of the project was to understand and assess how data / information / knowledge / experience, processes and business systems can be managed and integrated by using an information backbone. An approach has been developed which supports managing and sharing
generated information, knowledge and experience within product development, in this case for the Ikea group. By developing a new variant for the IKEA Alang lighting series the team gained insight in IKEA’s company workflow and product development process. Designbook acts as a company network and communication system in which every employee has their own personal account.

Philips Airfryer
User interaction & Design
Products can be used by a variety of users, for different purposes in a variety of environments. We call this the dynamics of use situations. Designing for dynamic use situations is difficult because it is hard to predict which situations a product will encounter and consequently what this requires from a product design.
These ‘dynamic uses’ are divided in different points of interest for the use of the Airfryer, for instance it can be used in different
environments, by different users or by users with different goals. To be able to explore these dynamics, a systematic approach is taken using several design techniques, such as the envisioning use workshop, frame of references and several user tests. This eventually led to a new design for the Philips Airfryer featuring a top-loader construction, which eventually is presented at Philips Drachten. Thereby, a scientific paper was written to review the design methodology.

iPhone Case Five
Design & Development
Case Five is an aluminum and wooden bumper for iPhone 5 and future 5s. It is the result of a extensive case study where function merges with art and ergonomic blends with user-friendliness. The bumper could be created with sustainable materials and is in full compliance with sustainable waste disposal practices.
Case Five is shaped from a solid block of
CNC aerospace aluminum and Hickory wood which makes it ultra-shock absorbing and ultra-bend resistant. It features minimalist design: simplified built-in accessories ensure light weight (estimated around 14g) and small size while granting excellent mechanical, functional, and aesthetic qualities. It has a two-part casing and quick to install screw-lock system.
THAT'S ALL FOLKS! I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.
If you would like to discuss a potential project, collaboration or any freelance work please get in touch. I'm also looking for a graduation project in the near future. Take a peek LinkedIn aluminum and wooden bumper for iPhone 5 and future 5s. It is the result of a Behance case study where function merges with art Pinterest and blends with user-friendliness Twitter. Have a nice day!
